RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE INFLECTION POINT OF ANAEROBIC THRESHOLD AND MUSCLE OXYGENATION MEASURED BY NIRS DURING INCREMENTAL EXERCISES

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to observe the change in skeletal muscle oxygenation with incremental exercises and to analyze the relationships between change of blood oxygenation and different anaerobic threshold variables. Seventeen participants were divided into two groups (Group A and Group B) according to their athletic career. Incremental exercise was performed on cycle ergomiter. VE, VCO2, VO2 were recorded, blood sample was taken from fingertip for analyzing blood lactate concentration and muscle oxygenation in quadriceps muscle was measured simultaneously. Result indicated that muscle oxygenation graded declined with work load upgraded. The change of muscle oxygenation during incremental exercise is highly reversely correlated with BLa, VO2 and HR and its turning point was correspondence with the breaking points of BLa, VT and HR,. It is concluded that NIRS is a high sensitive method for measuring muscle oxygenation during exercise. The change of muscle oxygenation is the reaction associated with many physiological factors. NIRS could be effectively utilized for determining maximal aerobic capacity.
