EVALUATION OF THE RED BLOOD CELLS SHAPE PARAMETER VARIANCE FROM THE DATA OF LASER EKTACYTOMETRY

ABSTRACT

Diffraction of the laser beam on a suspension of red blood cells (RBCs) in ektacytometer is theoretically considered. The light intensity distribution in the vicinity of the central maximum of the diffraction pattern is calculated under an assumption that half of the cells in the suspension are rigid and thus not deformable by the applied shear stress. An algorithm for diffraction pattern processing is suggested that allows for estimating the variance of the shape parameter of RBCs in the blood sample.
