POLYMERIZATION OF TINY FULLERENES IN THE CAVITY OF NANOTUBES

ABSTRACT

Polymerization of four C28-fullerenes in the cavity of closed single-walled carbon nanotube C740 was studied. Simulation of the polymerization process was carried out using the model of the nanoautoclave device.
The essential and sufficient conditions for the formation of chains of tiny fullerene C28 are formulated in a work. It was established that the polymerization of fullerenes C28 occurs at a distance of 1.9 Å between them. The formation of the oligomer consisting of four C28 fullerenes is observed at a pressure of 37.73 GPa. The aforementioned pressure was generated by a charged fullerene C60, which moved under the influence of an external electric field. Further approachment of fullerenes can lead to their deformation. It was found that the chemical bonds between C28 fullerenes are not being destroyed after the pressure relief. Therefore, one can conclude that the formation of oligomers in the nanoautoclave is possible.
